PCGS is proud to provide the opportunity to
hear one of the finest instrumental soloists playing today, Grammy
Award winning guitarist David Russell, in a special pre-Festival
Concert. Mr. Russell’s concert will be the opening event of the
PCGS 40th Anniversary Guitar Festival. Mr. Russell grew up
in Minorca, Spain and studied at the Royal Academy. He has earned many
prestigious prizes for his musicianship and technical mastery.

Thomas Viloteau, 2006 winner of the Guitar Foundation of America
Competition, studied at the Escuela de Música Juan Pedro Carrero
in Barcelona, Spain, and later at the Conservatorio Superior de
Música de Barcelona. Awarded a scholarship, he studied under the
direction of Alberto Ponce at the Ecole Normale in Paris, receiving the
Diplôme Supérieur de Concertiste in 2004. He continued his
guitar studies at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de
Musique de Paris. In addition to winning the GFA competition, Mr.
Viloteau has placed first in several other international competitions.

Guitarist Ruben González-Avila received his degree music from the
Instituto Superior de Artes de la Habana. He has studied with excellent
teachers who includie Alina Quezade, Efrain Amador, Aldo Rodriguez and
Maestro Leo Brouwer. Mr. Gonzáles-Avila teaches, performs and provides
master classes in the Dominican Republic, Venezuela and Argentina. He
has been winner of several notable guitar competitions.

Jorge Caballero was awarded First Prize at the
Walter W. Naumburg Foundation Competition, one of the most coveted
awards in classical music, at the age of 19. He has appeared with many
orchestras and chamber groups in the US, having played with the Los
Angeles Philharmonic, Orchestra of St. Luke’s, New York Chamber
Symphony Orchestra. He has given recitals in Alice Tully Hall at
Lincoln Center, the Great Performers series at the Library of Congress,
the Metropolitan Museum of Art and others. |
