PCGS CONCERT ENSEMBLE
The PCGS Concert Ensemble, under the direction of Mark Johnstone, is an auditioned, professional-level, performing guitar ensemble. The Concert Ensemble specializes in performing exciting and colorful works composed or arranged for multiple guitars. It is committed to providing a valuable ensemble experience for guitarists of diverse backgrounds, while maintaining musical excellence. The Concert Ensemble holds multiple concerts throughout the community in an effort to promote an appreciation for and expand the audience base of classical guitar music.
Membership is open to qualified guitarists who meet audition requirements and are members of the Philadelphia Classical Guitar Society.
Auditions are arranged by appointment with the Director throughout the season. To schedule an audition, send an email to Mark Johnstone. Applicants will be expected to perform sample passages from guitar ensemble repertoire and to demonstrate proficiency in sight-reading. Repertoire samples will be provided in advance.
Rehearsals of the PCGS Concert Ensemble are held on PCGS Concert days from 12:00 to 2:00 at Settlement Music School. There will also be sectional rehearsals organized by the Director. Ensemble members will be responsible for arriving at all rehearsals on time and fully prepared and will be required to purchase the music played each season.
